Data centre ICT

Data centre ICT design, build and operations

From comms rooms to hyperscale data halls, we design and deliver the infrastructure that carries your data: structured cabling, meet-me rooms, network fabrics, containment and monitoring, coordinated with your M&E engineers.

Inside the data hall

Eight layers we design and deliver

Select a layer to see what we do. The numbers on the illustration show where each layer sits.

1. Meet-me room and carrier entry

Diverse carrier entry, meet-me room layout and cross-connect design, so connectivity is resilient from the street to the rack.

01 · From concept to detailed design

Data centre ICT design

We design everything in the data hall that carries data, coordinated with architects and M&E engineers, and documented so contractors can build it right first time.

Talk to us about data centre ICT design

What we do

  • Requirements and capacity planning: rack numbers, power density, growth and resilience targets
  • Concept design: white space layout, rack rows, aisles and cable routes
  • Detailed design: drawings, rack elevations, cabling schedules and containment routes
  • Specifications and bills of quantities for contractors
  • Design reviews and coordination with architects and M&E engineers
  • Alignment with RIBA Plan of Work stages when part of a wider build

02 · Installed, tested and handed over properly

Build and integration

We oversee installation so the finished data hall matches the design, then test and document everything before handover.

Talk to us about build and integration

What we do

  • Contractor coordination and installation oversight
  • Rack, stack and cabling installation management
  • Fibre and copper testing and certification
  • Support for integrated systems testing (end-to-end tests of power, cooling and IT together)
  • As-built drawings, port maps and handover documentation

03 · Moves with minimal downtime

Migration and relocation

Moving into a new hall, a new site or colocation is planned down to the last dependency, with a way back at every step.

Talk to us about migration and relocation

What we do

  • Discovery and dependency mapping
  • Move groups, cutover runbooks and rollback plans
  • Out-of-hours execution with clear go/no-go points
  • Post-move testing and hypercare (extra support straight after go-live)

04 · Keeping capacity, change and documentation under control

Operations and monitoring

After handover we can help you run the space: watching capacity, controlling change and keeping records accurate.

Talk to us about operations and monitoring

What we do

  • Monitoring and DCIM (data centre infrastructure management)
  • Capacity and change management
  • Coordination with colocation providers and remote hands services
  • Regular audits, documentation updates and reporting

Standards

Designs aligned with recognised standards

Our data centre, cabling and security work follows established industry standards and guidance.

  • ANSI/TIA-942Telecommunications infrastructure standard for data centres
  • EN 50600European standard for data centre facilities and infrastructures
  • ISO/IEC 11801Generic cabling for customer premises
  • BS 6701UK standard for telecommunications equipment and cabling installation
  • Cyber EssentialsUK government-backed scheme: we prepare clients for certification
  • NCSC guidanceNational Cyber Security Centre guidance informs our security baselines

These are standards and guidance we align our work with. They are not certifications held by AlphaPath Group.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is data centre ICT design?

It is the design of everything in a data centre that carries data: structured cabling, containment, meet-me rooms, network infrastructure, rack layouts and monitoring. It is coordinated with the mechanical and electrical (M&E) design for power and cooling.

Do you design power and cooling?

We define ICT requirements such as rack power density and heat load, and coordinate closely with your M&E engineers, who design the power and cooling systems.

Can you work on existing data centres?

Yes. We design refreshes, expansions and new halls within existing facilities, as well as new builds.

Do you only work on large facilities?

No. We apply the same discipline to a single comms room as to a large data hall.
